A couple from PA led sneakers for soldiers.
A
couple from Pennsylvania has sent thousands of sneakers to troops stationed
overseas. Deborah and John Hausladen have been married for 43 years and have
two children. However, they have also shown immense care and support for
active-duty military members. In 2018, their youngest son, who was deployed to
Afghanistan, requested a pair of sneakers, realizing the greater need for
footwear among troops, the Malvern couple established a nonprofit called
Sneakers for Soldiers. They receive assistance from a local small business,
Bryn Mawr Running Company, which offers shoes at a discounted price and a
location for shipping the footwear. Sneakers for Soldiers has expanded to help
over 11,000 service members stationed in combat zones. While the Hausladens
rarely meet the recipients of their care packages, they had the opportunity to
meet Will Jones, a selected reservist with the United States Navy who resides in
Chester Springs. Read
